Trail Projects

  • Extension of DWP Trail
    • Initiated negotiation between MNDNR and City of Duluth for agreement to use 0.4 miles of Munger Trail shoulder to help connect city  trails to Buffalo House.
    • Scouted and proposed a route to MN DNR through conservation easement on private property for Buffalo House connector.
  • Expansion of Magney-Snively Horse Trails
    • Proposed to City of Duluth addition of North Loop (Lindahl Rd loop) to horse approved trails and added BCH representative to Master Planning Committee as first step.
  • Addition of Parking Area for Jay Cooke Horse Trails
    • Obtained approval to allow horse trailer parking in new off road area in Jay Cooke State Park.
    • Routed and applied for permission/resource review to construct new trail connector from Jay Cooke horse trailer parking area to existing trails.
  • Addition of Horse Trails in Nemadji State Forest
    • Did initial route scouting for new Nemadi Forest Wild Valley unit horse trails and parking area proposal.
    • Received approval to start roughing in horse trails within Nemadji Forest Wild Valley unit to begin spring 2026.
    • Obtained $8000 MN Horse Pass Grant for Wild Valley Nemadji Forest Horse Trailer parking and turnaround project.

Fundraising

  • Hosted January Women’s Hockey Game Box Fundraiser.
  • Hosted May Spring Tune-Up sensory clinic for 2 days at Serenity Farms.
  • Staffed booth at Bent Paddle Give to the Max Day event.
  • Individual members worked shifts at DECC/Bayfront paid to non-profit.

Advocacy

  • Attended monthly DAOA (Duluth Area Outdoor Alliance) meetings to represent horse interests.
  • Wrote letter of support to city for DAOA proposal to allow multi-use including horse trails on Lester Golf Course property.
  • Attended City of Duluth meeting to provide DAHTA input regarding Spirit ATV proposal.
  • Attending Gathering Grounds full day conference in October to represent horse interests in outdoor trail and resource management community discussions.
  • Served on Magney-Snively Natural Area Master Plan committee to advocate for continued and expanded use of horse trails.
  • Joined Back Country Horsemen of MN as new MN Duluth Chapter to further advocate for horse trails statewide and nationwide.

Education

  • Hosted a booth at Northland Horse Fair in April.
  • Hosted Spring Tune-Up sensory clinic for 2 days at Serenity Farms.
  • Updated website to include detailed local horse trail information.
  • Presentation by Ray Miller of EquiScan Computer Saddle Fitting Program.

Social

  • Weekend camp and ride for members at Solon Springs WI Bird Sanctuary in May.
